Welcome Parents and Families

Welcome! You have arrived at the homepage for Mr. Harrow & Mr. Kreiter's joint literature unit, social studies unit, and math unit.

For literature both classrooms will be reading books based around the theme "Never losing hope." While reading the books in their literature circles with their classmates, students will also be working on short stories and creating story quilt pieces. At the end of the unit, students from both classrooms will create a mega-story quilt together and participate in a joint class celebration and story sharing at Magnuson Park.

For the Social Studies Unit the focus will be understanding economics, government and how communities work together though the context of Ancient Egypt. Student will participate in a simulation "Storypath" in which they will become characters in Ancient Egypt. The Unit will culminate in a joint class banquet with games and food from Ancient Egypt during which students will be able to share their character's artwork and myth stories.

For the math unit, both classes will be exploring coordinates and areas in a series of lessons designed to make math fun and interactive while still being informative. Students will be calculating areas of rectangles and triangles as well as creating games using coordinates (kinda like Battleship). This unit promises to deliver math like it has never been delivered before.

Please visit the links below for more information on Mr. Harrow, Mr. Kreiter, and the Themed Literature Unit, the Social Studies Unit and the Math Unit for 2012 including links to supporting materials and activities for each book from the unit.
